Redesigning User Settings
OVERVIEW

The user settings experience plays a crucial role in providing seamless profile management, privacy control, and notification customization. In my redesign, I aimed to simplify and streamline the fragmented settings pages into a single, well-organized pop-up, improving both accessibility and user efficiency.

About the project

A cluttered settings experience reimagined — this redesign unifies scattered pages into a sleek, all-in-one pop-up, making profile, privacy, and notification management effortless.

Introduction

Managing user settings should be effortless, yet the old system was fragmented, inefficient, and frustrating. Users had to navigate multiple tabs just to update their profiles, adjust notifications, or modify privacy settings.

Problem Statement

The previous settings experience was fragmented across multiple pages, leading to:

High cognitive load – Users struggled to remember where each setting was located.

Low discoverability – Essential settings like muting users or privacy controls were difficult to find.

Inefficient user flow – Making simple changes (like updating a password) required navigating to a separate page.

How might we streamline the settings experience to make it faster, more intuitive, and easier to manage?

Solution: A Unified All-in-One Pop-Up

To improve usability and efficiency, I designed a centralized pop-up settings panel that allows users to manage all preferences in one place.

Design Approach

Structuring the Pop-Up Layout. The new design consists of three main sections:

- My Profile – Includes personal details, username, bio, and country selection.

- Notification Settings – Customizable alerts for replies, likes, and mentions.

- Privacy & Safety – Controls for profile visibility, muted users, and account deletion.

Visual & Interaction Enhancements. Consistency in UI Elements: A structured layout with clear labels and spacing improves readability.

Editing personal data (new design):

Privacy & Safety

The old privacy settings were confusing, with hidden controls and no clear feedback. Users struggled to manage their privacy, muted users, or request data. The new design simplifies everything with intuitive toggles, better visibility, and instant feedback, making privacy management seamless and transparent.

Notifications – Unified & Customizable

Previously, notification settings were buried in different sections, making them hard to find and manage. The new design centralizes all notifications in one place, allowing users to customize alerts effortlessly. Bulk actions make it easy to toggle multiple settings at once, improving efficiency and control. Now, users can tailor their experience without unnecessary steps.

Designed for Web & Mobile

This redesign ensures a consistent experience across devices. Whether on desktop or mobile, users can easily manage their settings with an intuitive interface optimized for both screens.

Conclusion

This redesign transformed a fragmented, inefficient settings experience into a streamlined, intuitive, and responsive all-in-one solution. By consolidating scattered pages into a single, modular pop-up, users now have easier access, better customization, and a faster workflow across both web and mobile.
